Body Of Woman Recovered From Illinois River

The body of an 18-year-old woman has been recovered from the Illinois River.

An employee of the Peoria Lock and Dam discovered the body in front of an anchored barge and notified authorities shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley.

Hanley confirmed to WCBU the woman is the same person who apparently jumped from the Bob Michel Bridge on Friday. She was pronounced dead at 9:15 a.m. Sunday and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday. Her name is being withheld pending family notification.

Creve Cour Police and the Fondulac Park District Police Marine Unit responded to the call, according to the news release. The Marine Unit already was on the river searching the area.

The case remains under investigation by the East Peoria Police and the coroner’s office.
