Apparent human skull found in Tazewell County

Yellow police tape stretches across a blurry crime scene. It says "Police Line Do Not Cross." The text "WCBU Police and Fire" lays on top of that photo.

Authorities in Tazewell County are working to identify skeletal remains located Sunday afternoon near East Peoria.

Deputies with the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office temporarily shut down the 1300 block of Cole Street after a possible human skull was found partially buried in the area.

The sheriff’s office says it is working actively with the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Division on an investigation into the remains.

No identification has been made and the investigation is ongoing.
