Signing into WCBU.org - Help and FAQ

Single Sign-On, or SSO, launched on WCBU.org in spring 2024. Signed-in users can easily navigate different public media services (like NPR.org, the NPR App, PBS.org or PBS Passport) with just one set of login credentials, eliminating the need for multiple accounts.

You can sign into WCBU.org by clicking “Sign In” at the top of any page. You’ll stay logged in as you visit any website or app that’s part of the Single Sign-On system.
NPR / PBS

Do I have to sign in?

No. Signing in is optional. The launch of sign-on on WCBU.org is the first step toward a more personalized and customized experience on our website, the NPR App, and other platforms. But it’s not required to read our stories, listen to our streams, or do anything else.

Is this a paywall?

Definitely not. We don’t have a paywall and never will.

Why would I sign in?

The launch of Single Sign-On is the first step toward a more personalized and customized experience on our website, the NPR App, and other platforms. In the future, we expect to roll out additional functionality, like customizing the look of the WCBU.org homepage based on a user’s interests. For now, here are the perks:

  • All signed-in users are eligible for a monthly giveaway (1st of the month) to win WCBU merchandise. Each month’s winner is contacted via email.
  • You’ll get a 3x/week email newsletter from WCBU (if you’re not already subscribed).
  • You can set your favorite station to WCBU on NPR.org.
  • One login for WCBU.org, NPR.org, and even PBS.org and Passport.

What if I already have a login with the NPR app or at NPR.org?

If you’ve previously signed into NPR.org, the NPR App, NPR+, or PBS.org with an email address, use that email address to sign into WCBU.org.

If you haven’t logged into those places, then just use whatever email address you’d like on WCBU.org.

When signed in, can I access or change my donation information?

No. This Single Sign-On system is not currently connected to your donation or transaction history. For questions or to make changes, contact Individual Giving Director Jennifer Armstrong at jarmst8@ilstu.edu or (309) 438-3581.

How is my data shared?

At the national level, NPR and PBS will only have access to data granted by both the user and the organization from which the information is sourced. When the user chooses to authenticate with any organization, their authentication data will be shared with the appropriate organization.

You can also delete your account by clicking Edit My Account once signed in. Your personal information will be permanently deleted. This will not cancel any recurring donations, PBS Passport membership benefit, or NPR+ enrollment.

I’m a PBS and Passport member. How does this affect me?

Single Sign-On will make it easier for users to have the same sign-in across NPR and PBS products, including mobile apps, websites, and services like PBS Passport. There will be no changes to PBS or NPR products, and the launch does not affect a user's Passport access.

Passport users can get more help on PBS.org.
