Juvenile suspect in fatal shooting charged as adult, ordered held until trial

A gavel rests on a judge's bench in a blurry courtroom. The text "WCBU Courts" sits on top of that photo.

A 17-year-old charged in connection with a fatal shooting near Martin Luther King Jr. Park will remain in custody until his trial begins.

Lamar Cagle is the third suspect facing first-degree murder charges in the June 20 death of Teron Scott. Due to his age and the nature of the charge, he automatically will be tried as an adult.

A news release from the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office on Wednesday said a Peoria County judge ordered Cagle to remain in custody while awaiting trial.

Christopher Adams and Kamereon Bell also have been charged with first-degree murder in Scott’s killing and are being held until their trials.

Prosecutors allege Adams, Bell and Cagle all were in a vehicle that pursued a car with Scott and another person inside. Adams told police he was driving when his passengers shot at the other vehicle, killing Scott and causing that vehicle to crash into a tree.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the Peoria Police Department at (309) 673-4521.
