Pedestrian dies after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Peoria

A 71-year-old man has died after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Peoria on Monday morning.

In a social media post Monday night, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified the as Rudy Stuffel of Peoria.

Stuffel was pronounced dead at the scene. Harwood said he suffered multiple traumatic injuries and died instantly. Toxicology tests are pending.

A Peoria Police Department spokesperson confirms the incident happened shortly before 7 a.m. near the intersection of Spalding Avenue and Monroe Street.

According to the police spokesperson, the driver of the vehicle was uninjured and cooperated with investigators.
