A woman has died after being shot while driving and crashing her vehicle into a business on Peoria’s South Side.

Peoria Police Department officers responded to the 600 block of S. Western Avenue shortly before 1:30 p.m. Monday for reports of shots fired.

On the way, they were informed that a vehicle struck the City Market building at the Howett Street intersection.

Officers found the woman inside the vehicle with “at least one gunshot wound.” She was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

Her name and official cause of death have not yet been released by the Peoria County Coroner’s Office.

During the investigation, officers identified an initial crime scene in the 1900 block of W. Antoinette Street.
No suspect information is available and the investigation is ongoing.
