The man accused of firing a shot that killed a 10-year-old boy in Peoria on Sunday night will remain in custody until his trial begins.

Maurice D. Sargent, 33, was allegedly trying to buy cannabis from two teenagers when they attempted to rob him. A child was caught in the ensuing gunfire.

According to a news release from the Peoria Police Department, officers were dispatched around 11:55 p.m. Wednesday to the 200 block of North MacArthur following a Shot Spot Spotter alert of one round being fired.
