Tri-County Adds 185 COVID-19 Infections, Tops 160K Vaccinations

Tri-County public health officials on Monday reported 185 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, with Peoria County adding 140 more infections since Friday. Meanwhile, the area has exceeded 162,000 administered doses of COVID-19 vaccines and almost 18% of residents fully vaccinated.

The region's case count since the start of the pandemic climbed to 35,669 while the death toll remained at 592 with no new fatalities over the weekend. Peoria-area hospitals reported 37 coronavirus patients, with 13 of them being treated in intensive care units.

Figures updated by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) showed the Tri-County added 3,844 shots in arms and 1,005 fully vaccinated individuals in the past three days. That moved the totals for Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties to 162,238 injections and 62,853 fully-dosed residents. On average, the three counties have combined for almost 1,850 shots per day over the past week.

Illinois as a whole stands at 4.75 million total doses administered after adding 237,000 injections since Friday. The number of fully vaccinated residents climbed to 1.77 million, or 13.8% of the state’s population.

The IDPH reported 1,220 new COVID cases in the past day, along with 22 more fatalities. The state’s tally over the past year increased to 1,223,083 infections and 21,103 deaths.
