Tri-County COVID-19 Hospitalizations Drop; Vaccine Doses Top 42K

More than 18,500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the Tri-County region since last week – including 3,500 in the past day.  

Meanwhile, the number of patients in Peoria-area hospitals with coronavirus infections has fallen by 30 over the past seven days.

Tri-County health officials on Friday reported 116 new COVID-19 cases and three additional deaths. The most recent victims were a Peoria County woman in her 80s and two Tazewell County residents--a man in his 60s and a woman in her 80s.

The death toll since the start of the pandemic for Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties stands at 516, while the number of total cases is up to 31,756 – an increase of 6,006 from one month ago. Sixteen of the area’s 51 hospitalized coronavirus patients are being treated in intensive care units, while 2,223 residents are isolating at home.

Figures posted Friday on the Illinois Department of Public Health's online database show more than 42,118 vaccinations have been given in Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties, up from 38,580 the day before. The number of residents fully vaccinated climbed to 5,236, which is 1.49% of the area’s total population of 351,412.

Across Illinois, 887,845 vaccine doses have been administered and 194,471 people have gotten their second shots.

State health officials reported 71 new fatalities linked to COVID-19 and 4,156 new cases, pushing Illinois' infection count to 1,120,528, while the death toll moved to 19,138.

Illinois hospitals had 2,735 coronavirus patients as of Thursday night, with 532 in ICUs and 297 on ventilators. The statewide preliminary seven-day positivity rate stands at 5.5%.
