OSF Children's ER Now Open 24 Hours

A children's emergency room at the OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois is now open 24 hours a day.

The separate ER first opened last July. Director of Emergency Services Debbie Trau said positive feedback since the ER's opening last July led the hospital to make it a continuous operation.

One feature of the ER are child life specialists who help kids feel more comfortable.

"If they're going to get an IV started, the child life specialist would go in and talk to the patient about that before, and help with some distraction techniques, both for the patient and the parents," she said.

The children's ER has a separated entrance and waiting room from the main emergency department.
