The retired chief development officer for OSF HealthCare will fill a new role in the Bradley University athletics department.
Tom Hammerton has been named the general manager for the Braves’ men’s and women’s basketball programs.
His responsibilities will focus on engagement, generating revenue, student-athlete opportunities, and long-term competitiveness
“I am deeply honored to return to Bradley and to support two basketball programs that mean so much to this university and this community,” Hammerton said in a media release. “Bradley basketball has a proud tradition, passionate supporters, and tremendous momentum.”
Hammerton retired as president of the OSF HealthCare Foundation in early April, after serving in that capacity for 13 years. He also brings experience from leadership roles with Bradley, including as executive director of development.
Bradley vice president of intercollegiate athletics Chris Reynolds said the lifelong Peorian is “uniquely suited” for the position.
“He brings an exceptional record of fundraising achievement, trusted relationships throughout Peoria and beyond, and a genuine passion for Bradley basketball,” Reynolds said in the news release.
In the newly-created role, Hammerton will work closely with Reynolds, deputy athletics director Brad Chandler, men’s basketball head coach Brian Wardle, and first-year women’s coach Chaia Meier.
“Tom’s addition is foundational for the future of Bradley basketball,” said Wardle. “His leadership and ability to build meaningful relationships will strengthen the support system around our programs in a significant way.”
“This is an important addition at an exciting time, and I look forward to working with him to help elevate our program and connect even more deeply with the Bradley community,” added Meier.
