Police Investigate Death on Bicycle Trail

Tanya Koonce

The Washington Police Department and Tazewell County Coroner’s office are investigating the death of a 37-year-old woman found on the Wood Street Bicycle Trail Tues.

The woman is being identified as 37-year-old Carrie M. Maynard of Washington, Ill.

Maynard's body was discovered shortly after 12pm just inside the trail entrance, at Jefferson and Wood Streets. Police are saying little except that no violence was indicated at the scene where the woman was found.

Tazewell County Coroner James Baldi says the condition of the body doesn’t indicate trauma or “anything unusual” about the circumstances of Maynard’s death.

"We want to allay any fears about a predator in the area," Baldi said. "The trail is safe for the public to use."

The Washington Police Department is joined by the Tazewell County Coroner's Office and the Illinois State Police for the investigation.

Anyone with information related to the matter is asked to contact the Washington Police Department.
