A 27-year-old Kewanee woman has been arrested on three counts of first-degree murder in connection with a March fatal shooting in Creve Coeur.
Tazewell County State’s Attorney Kevin Johnson and the Illinois State Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of Caitlynn Girkin. She is accused of killing 29-year-old Adolfo Cazares.
The shooting happened in the early morning hours on March 10. Officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Roosevelt Street shortly after 2 a.m. and found Cazares suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite attempted life-saving measures, Cazares died at the scene.
Girkin was taken into custody Tuesday and is being held at the Tazewell County jail ahead of a pretrial detention hearing. That hearing is expected to be held Thursday.
A post on a Creve Coeur Police Department social media page shows Girkin was sworn in as an officer in September 2025. The department has not yet responded to an inquiry seeking verification or her current status.
Creve Coeur Police immediately requested the ISP’s Division of Criminal Investigation to handle the case, and Girkin’s arrest followed the completion of a comprehensive investigation. ISP did not identify the investigation as an “officer-involved shooting.”
State police said the investigation remains active and ongoing. No other information was provided.
