Two people have died in a head-on crash Monday near Peoria.

21-year-old Zakery Haubrich was traveling westbound on Route 24 toward Quincy, where he'd be spending the holidays at home, said Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll.  She says Haubrich was a student at Bradley University.

Meanwhile, 55-year-old Peoria resident Rhonda Brooks was traveling eastbound when she drove across the westbound lands, up an embankment and then across the westbound lanes again before colliding with Haubrich's vehicle.

The crash occurred at 4:45, Ingersoll said. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene at 6:12pm.

As of Tuesday morning, autopsies had not been performed. Ingersoll says Brooks had recently been seen at a local hospital for dizziness and low potassium levels. Autopsy results are expected to be released Tuesday afternoon.

A portion of the highway was closed as the Illinois State Police investigated the crash.
