Peoria workers call for minimum wage hike

A grassroots Peoria group is calling to raise the state’s minimum wage to $13 per hour.  Members of ‘Fight For A Living Wage Peoria’ protested the current minimum-wage of $8.25.  Group founder Zachary Gittrich says booting the wage another five-dollars means financial security:

“It allows people to have enough money to not just barely get by, not just barely subsist, but to actually invest in their futures.”

Gittrich says the group also wants state lawmakers to raise the minimum wage for tipped-workers. Homecare workers in Peoria also called for a minimum wage hike at gatherings Wednesday.
