Rauner stops in Peoria on state victory tour

Governor-elect Bruce Rauner says he wants the general assembly to avoid taking up any big issues during this month’s veto session.  Rauner made his comment in Peoria Friday during a state-wide victory tour.  Rauner repeated his call that lawmakers should wait until the new general assembly is seated before taking up major issues:

“Because if they make a major decision based upon an outgoing governor or a general assembly that’s leaving office that can have lasting years of impact, that’s not right, that’s not appropriate.”

Rauner didn’t say *which* big issues lawmakers should punt on until January. But that could uinclude taking up the state’s temporary income tax hike that’s set to expire at year’s end. Rauner also pledged to work on bi-partisan solutions to help the state’s economy grow.  But specifics on his plan have been lacking.
