Durbin, Bustos talk financial challenges for women

There’s not enough financial help for women in the workplace, in the classroom and raising families. That’s the message from U-S Senator Dick Durbin and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, who held a roundtable at Illinois Central College about women’s economic security. Several participants told the lawmakers that it’s challenging to either find quality child-care or pay for it in the first place.  Durbin says childcare is falling behind in serving those who need it:

“A couple of the folks who were here, lucky to have parents who were ready to step in, and make great sacrifices for the family. Some, not so lucky.”

Durbin says passing federal child-funding grants and raising the federal minimum wage can directly help struggling parents in need of child care.  Both Durbin and Bustos also support raising the federal minimum wage to more than $10 per-hour.
