Road cosntruction season ahead

With Spring comes a new road construction season. The Morton Interstate-74 Construction Zone is expected to be active again by early April.

Illinois State Police Trooper Ross Green people need to make sure to observe the signs to reduce speed. “You never know what can happen inside those work zones. Every day is a different day. There maybe lane switches that you’re not familiar with and that speed limit is there for a reason.”

Trooper Greens says that includes the initial reductions in speed to 55 and 45. He says drivers are able to make quicker decisions at those speeds if necessary to accommodate things like the merging of construction vehicles.

The minimum fine for a first time speeding ticket in a construction zone is 375 dollars plus court costs.
