Area law enforcement honor fallen officers

The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and the Peoria Police Department held services to honor fallen officers this week. Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard says the main purpose of the ceremony is to never forget those officers who died in the line of duty:

“We’ve gone several years without losing an officer, which is wonderful and we hope never to lose another one. But we have to go back each year and mark the day and remember those we lost particularly for the family,” Settingsgaard says.

The ceremonies were held as part of a nation-wide remembrance during Police Week.  Both the police and sheriff's departments also recognized officers who made a significant impact on the community in the last year.
