Peoria police report declines in murders, shootings through first half of year

Shooting incidents, gunshot victims and total homicides in Peoria are down slightly through the first six months of 2026, compared with a year ago.

Updated statistics from the Peoria Police Department show five total murders so far, with three of them by gunfire. Peoria saw seven total homicides in the first half of 2025, and finished the year with 12.

The lone homicide last month was a fatal stabbing on June 3 on the western edge of Downtown. The most recent shooting death was a domestic incident downtown on May 8 that resulted in Peoria police fatally shooting the assailant.

The department reports 26 total victims from 24 separate shooting incidents so far this year. The total number of rounds fired is up slightly more than 100.
