A Peoria man involved in a Labor Day motorcycle crash in Woodford County died early Tuesday morning.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Michael Eddy, 53, was pronounced dead at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center shortly before 1:30 a.m. He succumbed to multiple blunt force trauma injuries suffered in the crash.

A news release from the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office says the crash involving two motorcycles and a third vehicle happened just before 5:30 p.m. Monday on Illinois 26, about five miles northeast of Spring Bay.

The sheriff’s office says a group of three motorcycles were riding together, heading south, when the lead motorcycle crossed the center line and struck an oncoming SUV.

Eddy was thrown from his motorcycle and was transported by a LifeFlight helicopter to OSF. The SUV sustained front-end damage and two of its four passengers were brought to the hospital for observation.

The second of the motorcycles was struck by debris in the roadway and its rider was taken to the hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. The rider on the third motorcycle was not injured.

Harwood said toxicology test results are pending. The sheriff’s office said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
