Man indicted for 2023 murder, RICO charges tied to street gang

A gavel rests on a judge's bench in a blurry courtroom. The text "WCBU Courts" sits on top of that photo.

A 22-year-old man has been indicted in connection with a 2023 murder in Peoria, along with corrupt organization charges for participation in a violent street gang known as “the Snakes.”

Nasaan Booker faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Antonio Walker, according to a media release from the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Booker's alleged gang affiliation led to charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization [RICO] Act, making him the 11th individual charged similarly following an investigation into the Snakes.

Booker already was in custody at the Peoria County Jail under charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and armed robbery.

He is the second person to face first-degree murder charges in Walker’s death. Last month, Peoria police announced the arrest of 22-year-old Jyvonnie Walker Jr. for the killing. He was later indicted and ordered to remain in custody while awaiting trial.
