A 22-year-old Peoria man has been charged with first-degree murder stemming from a 2023 mass shooting on the city’s South Side that resulted in a teen’s death a month after the incident.

The Peoria Police Department said Jyvonnie J. Williams Jr. was taken into custody without incident Friday morning by U.S. Marshals personnel.

Following an interview with Peoria police, Williams was arrested in connection with the death of Antonio Walker, 16, and transported to the Peoria County Jail.

Walker was one of five people who were shot in the 2200 block of West Market Avenue on Aug. 30, 2023, while a sixth victim suffered a laceration. Two of the shooting victims were initially reported in critical condition.

Walker died Sept. 30, 2023, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, following a month of aggressive treatment. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Walker suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
