A woman is dead after an early morning crash along Route 29 between Peoria and Chillicothe.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said emergency responders received a call for a two-vehicle collision at 6:46 a.m. Friday morning. Officials found a crash scene at the intersection of North Galena Road, or Illinois 29, and River Beach Drive.

Harwood said a 30-year old Chillicothe woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:15 a.m.

According to Harwood, the Chillicothe woman was traveling northbound on Route 29 when she was struck by a southbound mid-size truck, nearly head on.

The stretch of Route 29 was closed to traffic shortly before 7 a.m. and reopened shortly after 10 a.m.

Illinois State Police are investigating the crash. Harwood said he expects additional information will be released later Friday.
