A man is dead after being hit by a vehicle while crossing a road in Washington.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Michael Ayers, 35, was crossing the road sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. He was struck when he was midway into the road.
Ayers was pronounced deceased hours later while in intensive care at OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Harwood said an autopsy performed Friday confirmed Ayers suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries from the collision with the vehicle.
Harwood said the circumstances surrounding Ayers' death are still unknown at this time. Ayers has no reported address. The investigation is ongoing.
