A person is dead after being struck by a vehicle while walking Friday along Interstate 74 on the East Peoria side of the Murray Baker Bridge.
According to a statement from Illinois State Police Troop 4, the incident occurred in the westbound lanes near milepost shortly before 6 a.m.
The statement said the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital and died of their injuries.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said in the social media post on Monday the pedestrian has been identified as Mark Thompson, 45, of Kewanee. He was pronounced dead at 7:10 a.m. at OSF Ft. Francis Medical Center and likely died instantly.
Harwood said toxicology results are pending.
Authorities have not provided any information about the driver.
The incident resulted in the westbound section of I-74 crossing the bridge to be shut down for about three hours.
