A person is dead after being struck by a vehicle while walking Friday along Interstate 74 on the East Peoria side of the Murray Baker Bridge.
According to a statement from Illinois State Police Troop 4, the incident occurred in the westbound lanes near milepost shortly before 6 a.m.
The statement said the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital and died of their injuries. The person has not yet been identified.
The incident resulted in the westbound section of I-74 crossing the bridge to be shut down for about three hours.
