One person is dead after a vehicle struck a pedestrian Thursday night in Washington.

Washington police say they received a call shortly after 7 p.m. reporting a pedestrian-involved crash in the 1200 block of Peoria Street.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says 34-year-old Patrick Merchant of South Market Street, Washington was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in "grave condition" and pronounced deceased shortly after 9 p.m.

Police say two people, one of them Merchant, crossed Peoria Street on foot, about 400 feet east of the Eagle Street Crosswalk. Merchant was hit by a car headed east.

Police say the juvenile driver of the car stopped after the crash and cooperated with first responders.

The incident is still under investigation.
