A 42-year-old Peoria man is dead after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night near the Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino in East Peoria.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Ryan G. Smith died of his injuries Friday afternoon at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

In a social media post Monday afternoon, Harwood said first responders were called to Illinois Route 116 in the vicinity of the casino shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday for a report of a person being struck on the roadway.

Smith was taken from the scene to OSF, arriving unresponsive and in critical condition. Despite aggressive treatment, he was pronounced dead shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday, said Harwood.

Results of toxicology tests required under state law are pending. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the East Peoria Police Department.
