A man is dead and a teen suspect is in custody after a fatal shooting Monday night in South Peoria.

Peoria Police say they arrested a 16-year-old boy Tuesday afternoon in connection with the death of Michael Drummond, 34. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified Drummond as the victim earlier Tuesday.

Police responded after a Shot Spotter alert detected 13 rounds fired just before 9 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Howett Street, between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Lincoln Avenue. Officers found a Drummond at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police immediately began life-saving measures on Drummond and transported him to a local hospital, where he died a short time later. Harwood said Drummond suffered multiple gunshot wounds and likely died instantly.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident at a Peoria residence. He was subsequently arrested following an interview and taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center on first-degree murder charges.

Police will not release any further information about the teen because he is a juvenile.
