14-year-old will be tried as an adult for murder of Peoria teen

A 14-year-old Peoria boy will be tried as an adult for the August murder of another teenager.

A Peoria County judge ordered Byron Jarvis's case transferred to adult court last Friday. Jarvis is charged with first-degree murder for the Aug. 22 death of Dahvie P. Brown-Bey, 17 near Kansas and Wisconsin.

Prosecutors say Jarvis fired four shots. Video footage shows three shots were fired at Brown-Bey from point-blank range. Several bystanders were present, including a 10-year-old and a 13-year-old.

At a detention hearing Wednesday, a judge ordered Jarvis to be held in the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center pending trial. His arraignment is set for Jan. 17.
