South Peoria shooting marks city's 21st homicide of 2023

The Peoria Police Department is investigating the city's 21st homicide of the year.

Officers were sent to the 1800 block of South Stanley at 10:15 p.m. Monday on a report of a person being shot.

The man was found and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the victim was 20-year-old James Irby of Peoria. He was shot multiple times and likely died instantly.

The shooting is under investigation. Police haven't identified any suspects.
