The Illinois State Police are investigating the death of an inmate at the Peoria County Jail.

Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins confirmed the death and says an officer giving the inmate CPR also had a medical event and was sent to the hospital. Watkins says the officer has recovered.

Trooper Josh Robinson with the Illinois State Police says DCI Zone 4 investigators responded to the county jail around 11:35 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 8. In an emailed statement, he says the investigation is still active and no additional information will be released at this time.
