The Peoria County Coroner has identified the victims of late Saturday night's fatal shooting, car chase and crash, as a 52-year-old man and a 26-year-old man, both from the city's South Side.
Malik Pickett, 26, died at 3:14 a.m. at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. He was shot multiple times near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and MacArthur Highway around 2:45 a.m., according to Peoria Police.
Illinois State Police [ISP] report Peoria police officers pursued a car driving off from the shooting scene westbound down Howett Street. The pursued car hit another vehicle, then struck a pedestrian before crashing into a utility pole.
The pedestrian, Gary Traylor, 52, was pronounced dead at 5:40 a.m. near the intersection of Howett and Western Avenue, said the coroner.
The driver and a passenger were pulled from the car and taken to the hospital. Police said one was in serious condition; the other was in critical condition.
Traylor lived on Howett Street, according to the coroner. Pickett came from another area on the South Side.
Autopsies for both men are scheduled for Monday.
ISP is investigating the fatal crash, the second such crash tied to a police chase in a month. PPD is investigating the fatal shooting.
At least one other person was injured in the shooting — shot in the leg, but expected to recover.
