The shooting death of a juvenile in the vicinity of Pleasant Valley Intermediate School on Monday night marks Peoria’s 10th homicide of 2023.

Peoria police responded to the intersection of Richwoods Boulevard and Molleck Drive shortly after 10 p.m. for reports of someone shot in the leg.

When officers arrived, they discovered the juvenile in the 3100 block of Molleck. He was not responsive, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said 14-year-old Omarius Gates was shot in the back and likely died instantly.

Police arrested 23-year-old Tramier Pate for first degree murder and attempted robbery in connection with the incident on Wednesday. He was taken to the Peoria County Jail.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact the Peoria Police Department.
