Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, COVID-19 cases in the Tri-County continue to escalate.

Public health officials from Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties on Monday reported 401 new coronavirus infections and an increase of 174 active cases since Friday.

With 36 patients being treated for COVID-19 at Peoria-area hospitals and 1,245 area residents isolating at home, the region’s caseload has nearly tripled since dipping to 448 on Nov. 2.

The three counties have now logged 56,315 cases of COVID-19 since March 2020, gaining 1,749 in the past two weeks. The region's death toll from the pandemic stands at 863, with three fatalities added over the weekend.

Updated figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health show 52.6% of Tri-County residents are fully vaccinated and 56.6% have received at least one shot.
