Tri-County Adds Nearly 300 New COVID-19 Cases Over Weekend

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The number of COVID-19 cases in the Tri-County climbed by more than 1,500 in the past two weeks, with 297 new infections added since Friday.

Figures updated Monday by the region’s three public health departments show the active caseload ticked up over the weekend, with 42 patients with COVID-19 in Peoria-area hospitals and 1,003 residents isolating at home. That’s down from 1,153 active cases as of Aug. 30, but up from 1,034 at the end of last week.

The Tri-County has added 10 fatalities linked to COVID-19 since Labor Day, bringing the death toll since the start of the pandemic for Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties to 805.

According to Illinois Department of Public Health statistics, 49.2% of Tri-County residents are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, with the three counties combining for 347,587 administered doses.
