Active Tri-County COVID-19 Cases Drop, But Hospitalizations Climb

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Peoria-area hospitals added 11 patients with COVID-19 since the start of last week, but active cases in the Tri-County region fell by nearly 300 over the Labor Day weekend.

Public health officials on Tuesday reported six new fatalities linked to the pandemic since Friday, including five in Tazewell County. The Tri-County’s death toll since last March now stands at 795, while the total case count is up to 49,842.

Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties combined have 1,030 residents isolating at home, while Peoria-area hospitals are treating 54 patients with COVID-19 — up from 43 last Monday, and 51 headed into the weekend. The total caseload stood at 1,375 on Friday.

The latest figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health show 48.8% of Tri-County residents are now fully vaccinated, an increase of 0.5% over the past seven days.
