Active COVID-19 cases in the Tri-County are at their highest number since the end of April.
On Monday, public health officials from Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties reported 43 patients with COVID-19 at Peoria-area hospitals and 1,110 area residents isolating at home.
The caseload across the three counties has grown by more than 300 in the past two weeks and is now the highest it has been since 1,452 cases on April 30. Since the start of the pandemic, the region has logged 48,976 total coronavirus infections.
Updated figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health show 49% of Tri-County residents are fully vaccinated. Tazewell County alone is at 49.5%, and Peoria County is at 49.3%.
Peoria County reported one additional fatality linked to COVID-19 over the weekend, bringing the area’s death toll since the start of the pandemic to 786.
