The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Tri-County has more than doubled in the past week, reaching the highest total in more than two months.
Meanwhile, the region stands at 45.3% of residents being fully vaccinated – a gain of just 0.4% in the past seven days and up just 1.5% since the end of June.
Public health officials on Monday reported 299 individuals from Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties currently isolating at home with coronavirus infections. Additionally, Peoria-area hospitals are treating 14 patients with COVID-19.
The caseload of 313 is up from 137 last week, and the most since 508 on May 21. The region added 246 new infections since last Monday, including 116 in Peoria County and 112 in Tazewell County.
The area’s case total since the start of the pandemic is up to 46,139, while the death toll stands at 769 after two fatalities in the past week.
The latest vaccination figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health show the three counties combining for 319,634 administered doses and 159,140 residents fully vaccinated – including 82,408 in Peoria County (45.6%) and 59,996 in Tazewell County (45.3%).
