UPDATED: Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck By SUV In West Peoria

A 33-year-old West Peoria man who died Monday evening after being hit by an SUV has been identified as Corey D. Griffin.

On Tuesday, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Griffin was pronounced dead shortly before 6:30 p.m. at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. Toxicology tests are pending.

According to Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell, the collision happened shortly before 6 p.m. at the intersection Waverly and Kellogg avenues in West Peoria.

A witness indicated the driver of the westbound SUV did not make a complete stop at a stop sign, striking the southbound motorized bicycle as it crossed the intersection.

Although Griffin received medical attention on the scene, Harwood said he suffered multiple blunt force head injuries and likely died shortly after the collision. Harwood said Griffin was not wearing a helmet.

Asbell said the 21-year-old driver of the SUV was cited for disobeying the stop sign, and the case will be forwarded to the Peoria County States Attorney's Office for further review.
