Tri-County public health officials on Wednesday reported two more deaths linked to COVID-19 and 74 new cases, while hospitalizations declined for a second straight day and the area moved past 125,000 fully vaccinated residents.

The most recent victims were both from Peoria County: a woman in her 80s, and a man in his 60s with underlying health issues. The region’s death toll since the start of the pandemic stands at 695, while the case count is up to 44,811.

Peoria-area hospitals have 78 patients admitted for COVID-19, a reduction of 12 from the previous day. Twenty-seven people are being treated in intensive care units, while 896 area residents are isolating at home.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)vreported 1,795 new cases and 26 more fatalities across Illinois in the past day. That moves the statewide count to 1,359,748 infections since last March, with a death toll of 22,285.

Updated IDPH vaccination statistics show Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties with 125,420 fully-dosed individuals, which represents 35.7% of the population.

The region administered 1,814 doses in the past day, bringing the total number of shots in arms to 263,210. The daily average over the past week is 1,503 injections.

Illinois as a whole has totaled 10.1 million administered doses, and 36.2% percent of residents are fully vaccinated.
