Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in the Tri-County area have fallen below 100 for the first time since the beginning of April.

According to Tuesday’s update from the local health departments, Peoria-area hospitals have 90 patients admitted with confirmed or probable coronavirus infections. That’s down 36 from Monday, and marks the lowest number since 74 on April 1.

The number of patients in intensive care units dropped by four to 25, while 895 area residents are isolating at home.

Tri-County health officials reported four more COVID-19 deaths and 63 additional cases since Monday, bringing the totals for Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties since the start of the pandemic to 44,737 infections and 693 fatalities.

The most recent deaths include three Peoria County residents: a man in his 50s, and two women — one in her 70s with underlying health issues and one in her 80s. The other victim was a Tazewell County woman in her 70s.

Meanwhile, the latest COVID-19 vaccination figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) show the Tri-County up to 261,396 administered doses and 124,054 residents fully vaccinated, or 35.3% of the region’s population. Illinois as a whole moved past 10 million total shots in arms, with 4.55 million residents (35.7%) fully dosed.

The IDPH reported 1,562 new infections and 26 additional deaths in the past day, increasing the statewide counts since last March to 1,357,953 cases and 22,261 fatalities.
