Six Peoria County residents are among the eight most recent deaths linked to COVID-19 in the Tri-County area.

Tri-County public health officials on Monday announced an additional 172 coronavirus infections across the region over the weekend, along with the new fatalities. The area’s death toll since the start of the pandemic is 689, while the case count increased to 44,674.

Four of the Peoria County victims had underlying health conditions: a woman in her 30s and three men ranging from their 40s to their 60s. The others were a woman in her 60s and a man in his 70s, as well as a Tazewell County man in his 60s and a Woodford County woman in her 70s.

Peoria-area hospitals have 126 patients with coronavirus infections, including 29 in intensive care units. Nearly 400 area residents are in home isolation.

State health officials reported 1,424 new COVID-19 cases and 12 more deaths across Illinois in the past day, bringing the totals since last March to 1,356,391 infections, and 22,235 fatalities.

Meanwhile, the Tri-County’s daily average for COVID-19 vaccine doses over the past week came in at 1,402 after adding 4,265 shots and 2,851 fully vaccinated residents over the weekend.

According to updated Illinois Department of Public Health figures, the region is now up to 259,706 total injections, with 122,590 individuals fully dosed — or about 34.9% of the population.

Illinois as a whole is up to 35.4% of residents fully vaccinated and is on the verge of topping 10 million total shots in arms.

Last week, Gov. JB Pritzker announced Illinois will move into the Bridge Phase of the Restore Illinois reopening plan this Friday.

As of Sunday, more than 1,900 people across the state were hospitalized for COVID-19, and the preliminary seven-day positivity rate was down to 3.4%.
