Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties have seen their combined COVID-19 case count rise by a little more than 5,000 over the past four weeks.

Tri-County health officials on Friday reported 137 new coronavirus infections in the past day, along with four more deaths linked to the pandemic. The region’s death toll stands at 681, while the total number of cases increased to 44,502 — up from 39,448 on April 9.

The latest victims were all Tazewell County residents: three men and one woman, all in their 70s or older. The region has recorded 50 COVID-19 fatalities in the last 17 days.

Updated vaccination figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) show the Tri-County adding 1,254 shots administered and 972 more fully-vaccinated residents in the past day. The region has administered 255,441 total COVID-19 vaccine doses, and 119,739 residents — 34.07% of the population — are fully vaccinated.
