As owners of the new Hampton Inn along the Illinois River in East Peoria celebrate the hotel’s “excellent start,” Mayor John Kahl says the development signifies another step in the city’s progress.

The work includes removing the existing curb on the north side of Washington in the project area, adding easy-access parking spaces and installing a signalized crosswalk similar to the one on Washington between City Hall and the shopping center.

East Peoria Community Foundation President Sue Portscheller joined a host of other community and civic leaders for a soft opening and ribbon cutting at Levee Park.
