WCBU earns Regional Murrow Award for Overall Excellence

WCBU has earned a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence for the second year in a row.

The award was announced Tuesday by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). Of the awards given to journalists, the Murrow Awards are among the most respected journalism awards in the world.

WCBU earned the award of excellence in the Small Market Radio category for Region 7, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Regional winners automatically advance to the national competition, winners of which will be announced in August. WCBU was last awarded for Overall Excellence in 2022.

WCBU continues to expand its programming and digital offerings while maintaining high quality flagship shows. Our daily news magazine All Things Peoria continues to feature the long-form reporting done by our growing, local newsroom on the campus of Bradley University, shining a light into all corners of Greater Peoria. WCBU’s On Deck podcast builds on that work, providing a snapshot of the biggest stories every weekday morning.

WCBU serves the community digitally through live blogs, extensive election coverage, several new podcasts, the Welcome Home series for transplants, web stories at WCBU.org and on social media.

The Murrow Awards are the embodiment of the values, principles and standards set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.

You can learn more about WCBU’s history of award-winning journalism on our Awards page.

Jody Holtz is WCBU's assistant program and development director, All Things Considered host, as well as the producer of WCBU’s arts and culture podcast Out and About.
