Senate leader wants pension details from governor in writing

Illinois Senate President John Cullerton says he wants Gov. Bruce Rauner to put in writing the details of a proposed pension overhaul their attorneys have been discussing for weeks.

Cullerton says there was "confusion" after the Republican governor told reporters a that he backed the Democrat's plan as long as it included a provision aimed at collective bargaining.

Cullerton says Rauner's public statements don't match what the two discussed privately. Rauner's office has suggested the governor wasn't "precise in his word selection" and the two sides do agree.

Cullerton's plan lets workers choose between keeping cost-of-living increases in retirement and counting future raises when calculating retirement benefits.
