Judge refuses to lower bond for ex-cop accused of threats

A judge has refused to reduce the $100,000 bond of a retired Chicago police officer accused of warning investigators of an Illinois officer's fatal shooting that he would hurt them unless they declared the death a suicide.

The Lake County judge didn't elaborate about why she denied Joseph A. Battaglia's request. The 54-year-old remains behind bars. Battaglia has no history of mental illness and no criminal history.

The case follows the Sept. 1 shooting of Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz. Gliniewicz was shot after he radioed he was chasing three suspects. His death prompted a manhunt.
