Judge: Suit against Lucas Chicago museum can proceed

A Chicago federal judge says a civil suit seeking to block George Lucas' museum from being built along Lake Michigan can proceed.

Judge John Darrah's Thursday ruling rejects a motion to dismiss the entire lawsuit. The advocacy group Friends of the Parks filed the suit against the Chicago Park District in November. It calls the "Star Wars" creator's museum an "assault on the shores of Lake Michigan" and urges Lucas to pick a new location.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel embraces the idea of the museum. The city has offered to make the land available in a lease.

Darrah did dismiss one of four counts. But one of the suit's main points remains: That the city has no authority to hand over the land under the public trust doctrine.
