A spokesman for late Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka says a public memorial service is being planned for next week. The service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Operating Engineers' Local 150 headquarters in Countryside.
Topinka died unexpectedly Wednesday at the age of 70 after suffering complications from a stroke. Her passing came just weeks after she was elected to a second term.
Brad Hahn says the Riverside Republican's will was examined shortly after her death. Hahn says while Topinka "made it very clear she didn't want a funeral or a wake" she included a stipulation in the legal document that her family and friends could hold a memorial service for her following her cremation.
